How to move your Mac’s mouse by tracking your head with a webcam https://integer-software.co.uk/how-to-move-your-macs-mouse-by-tracking-your-head-with-a-webcam/ https://integer-software.co.uk/how-to-move-your-macs-mouse-by-tracking-your-head-with-a-webcam/#respond Sun, 20 Jun 2021 20:38:20 +0000 https://integer-software.co.uk/how-to-move-your-macs-mouse-by-tracking-your-head-with-a-webcam/

Reduce your reliance on your mouse by using your head, by activating the head pointer in macOS to move your cursor and click on icons as you move your skull from side to side.

Apple includes many different accessibility tools in its operating systems, allowing many people to access its software and tools without using conventional methods. While intended for users who cannot use a keyboard or mouse, the same features can also be used by anyone, just by turning them on and changing a few settings.

Sometimes accessibility features can help a user’s productivity in unexpected ways, such as with macOS’s Head Pointer feature.

What is the head pointer?

Included since macOS Catalina, Head Pointer is a tool that, in simple terms, turns your head into a mouse. Using a webcam pointed at the user, the tool can monitor the rotation of the user’s head, side-to-side or vertically, and move the on-screen cursor within this direction.

This has obvious utility for people who cannot use a mouse at all, but it can also benefit all users. With a sufficiently large screen and a perfectly placed webcam, the tool could move the cursor near an area of the screen that the user is actively viewing.

Since the mouse can still be used and replaces all head movements, this system could move the cursor close to where a user intends to use it, simply by moving the head and attention. . The mouse could then be used for the last potentially shorter movement to the icon or item that will be clicked or dragged.

The system isn’t quite perfect, as it relies on a correct interpretation of a webcam video feed, which was confused in testing by beards and bushy glasses. It is also not precise enough for applications such as finely detailed illustrations.

But to get the mouse in the general area or for simple tasks, it’s still a handy tool to activate.

Enabling and Using the Head Pointer

The first thing to do is to set up a webcam for your Mac. MacBooks have the FaceTime camera, which can be used, but pretty much any imaging device that you can plug in that the Mac sees as a webcam will do.

How to enable the head pointer in macOS

  • Click it Apple in the menu bar and select System Preferences.
  • To select Accessibility.
  • Scroll down left to reach and select Pointer control.
  • Click it Alternative control methods tongue.
  • Check the box next to Activate primary pointer.

Once activated, macOS will begin to interpret your head movements from the webcam’s point of view as mouse movements. If you want to refine the controls, click the Options button.

You can change the speed at which the cursor moves relative to your head.

You can change the speed at which the cursor moves relative to your head.

In the General section, you can configure the system to move the pointer “Relative to head” or “When facing edges of screen”. The latter is the more extreme version, while the “Relative” option will be the best for most people.

Although its positioning is not necessarily perfect, most of the time, “Relative to Head” will help you get the mouse closer to where you want it to be without too much effort.

The speed of the pointer will dictate how fast the pointer will move across the screen based on your head movement. Distance to edge is only enabled when using the “Screen Edges” option and will dictate how much you need to turn your head before the pointer starts moving.

The Camera Options button will allow you to select the correct webcam if you have more than one installed, as well as an Expressions tab which we’ll come to momentarily.

Facial actions and expressions

The Actions tab adds additional controls you can perform with your face, related to the basic operation of Head Pointer.

You can set facial expressions to turn the head pointer on and off and to recalibrate periodically.

You can set facial expressions to turn the head pointer on and off and to recalibrate periodically.

If the first option is enabled, you can press F10 to toggle the head pointer on and off, but you can also set other commands to enable it using the Assign button. In this menu, you can set a “physical switch” or press a button on the keyboard to toggle the action, or facial expression.

You can choose from a list of predefined facial expressions, which will turn it on and off in the same way. The list includes a smile, an open mouth gesture, sticking your tongue out, raising your eyebrows, blinking your eyes, crinkling your nose, or puckering your lips to the left, right or outward.

There is a pretty long list of facial expressions that Head Pointer can detect.

There is a pretty long list of facial expressions that Head Pointer can detect.

There is a similar menu to recalibrate Head Pointer if it’s been a while and it doesn’t quite detect movement or the cursor is acting wild. Again, you can set a button, physical switch, or facial expression to request recalibration.

You can even configure how much effort it takes for a facial expression to be accepted by Head Pointer. Maybe you don’t want to stick out your tongue too much or it doesn’t catch the folds properly.

In the Camera Options menu, under Expressions, there are drop-down lists that let you set how much expressiveness you need to count as an intended facial action. The “Default” is the middle setting, but you can set it as “Light” or “Exaggerated” as needed for each.

Click on the mouse buttons

While moving your head to move the cursor is one thing, you can also set up some facial expressions to perform some basic mouse button actions. Check “Enable alternative pointer actions” and click Options to configure this.

Expressions can be defined to trigger mouse button clicks and combinations of clicks.

Expressions can be defined to trigger mouse button clicks and combinations of clicks.

In the menu, the F11 and F12 keys are set to left click and right click by default, with an interface to add more commands. Below are checkboxes, each to show visual indicators or to play a sound when facial recognition related to an action is detected.

How to assign a facial expression to a mouse action in Head Pointer for macOS

  • Enter the Pointer control part of the Accessibility menu in System Preferences.
  • Click on Options next to Enable Alternate Pointer Actions.
  • Click it more symbol.
  • To select Facial expression then following.
  • Select the required Facial expression from the list.
  • Enter a Last name for the combination of action and facial expression.
  • Select the action you want to be executed. This covers left and right clicks, double and triple clicks, and toggle for a drag and drop action.
  • Click on Made.
  • To delete the assignment, select it in the list, then click the minus button and confirm with Wipe off.
  • To edit an assignment, select it in the list, then click the circle button. Make changes and save as before.

New Apple Leak Reveals Powerful Features Of MacBook Pro https://integer-software.co.uk/new-apple-leak-reveals-powerful-features-of-macbook-pro/ https://integer-software.co.uk/new-apple-leak-reveals-powerful-features-of-macbook-pro/#respond Sun, 20 Jun 2021 00:18:05 +0000 https://integer-software.co.uk/new-apple-leak-reveals-powerful-features-of-macbook-pro/

Apples MacBook Pro family is at the forefront of the evolution of macOS to ARM-based hardware that offers more power, better battery life, and cooler running computers. The latest leaks highlight the power offered by new laptops.

And his timely news. Anyone looking to upgrade should do their best to wait for these exciting new machines.

The laptops in question are the two “high-end” MacBook Pro machines that are clearly lacking in the current line powered by Apple Silicon. The MacBook Air – even though it outperforms similarly priced Intel and AMD laptops – remains the entry-level laptop and therefore should be seen as the bottom of Apple’s portfolio.

The late 2020 MacBook Pro machines certainly provided more power than the MacBook Air, but they were a direct replacement for the cheaper MacOS laptops. The most expensive 13-inch and 16-inch MacBooks remain, even though they use Intel processors

Many expected them to be replaced at Apple’s Global Developer Conference earlier this month, sadly not. The latest news suggests that the new MacBooks – which are expected to launch the new, more angular design, introduce mini-LED displays, and upgrade the smaller MacBook Pro to a 14-inch display – will arrive at the traditional event in late October. Filipe Espósito reports:

According to Dylan, the company plans to launch new models of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro “in late October or early November.” In May, Dylan corroborated further rumors that the new MacBook Pro would have a whole new look with it. flat edges, reduced bezels and extensive connections, which include an SD card reader, MagSafe and an HDMI port. ”

The name of the processor would be interesting. The obvious successor to last year’s M1 processor would be the M2, but a leap in cardinal numbers would represent substantive changes. Instead, the M1X has been a popular name for an upgraded M1 processor, likely with optional increased RAM, plus additional CPU and GPU cores for more work-intensive work than high-end Pro laptops should. carry out.

But the main takeaway from the latest information is the release date. The extra performance, new design and modifications that will have been sent back to Cupertino from the first generation Mac M1s will only be available on these new machines. And their release is only in a few months.

If you’re looking for a new MacBook Pro with as much power as it gets, with the latest updates and a real new design, ignore the various offerings for the M1 machines. Something better is just around the corner.

PC vs Mac – Which is Better for Gaming? https://integer-software.co.uk/pc-vs-mac-which-is-better-for-gaming/ https://integer-software.co.uk/pc-vs-mac-which-is-better-for-gaming/#respond Fri, 18 Jun 2021 15:00:00 +0000 https://integer-software.co.uk/pc-vs-mac-which-is-better-for-gaming/

Melbourne, Australia, June 18, 2021 / PRNewswire / – According to an online tech retailer, PCByte, Determine if a PC or Mac gaming laptop or the desktop is better really depends on the use of the system. Both systems have advantages and disadvantages, with various aspects that must be taken into account when deciding which is the best gaming laptop or a desktop computer for the individual’s needs and preferences.

When it comes to graphics, only the more expensive Mac models usually have dedicated graphics, while the more affordable models usually rely on integrated Intel graphics, which doesn’t allow for the smoothest gaming experience. While high-end PC graphics can also be expensive, there are plenty of affordable versions that can support an enjoyable gaming experience.

PCByte indicates that some of the greatest benefits of a Gaming pc a on a Mac, are the cost and ability to upgrade. If a Mac is upgradeable, typically only the memory and storage drive can be upgraded. Windows computers, on the other hand, have more choices for hardware accessories, with more flexibility to configure a custom system, as well as more flexibility for upgrading later. The ability to upgrade on a PC means that a user can create a system that is ideal for their needs.

Games require a fast processor, and Mac Pro computers typically come with powerful processors capable of supporting modern video games. Unfortunately, Mac Pro series computers are much more expensive compared to a PC with the same capabilities.

Despite Apple’s efforts to create more gaming-friendly Macs, not all games are compatible with the macOS system. As PCByte explains, game developers are always more inclined to release versions for Windows on macOS, which means that the selection for Mac users is limited and often delayed.

According to PCByte, while the Mac system has improved over the past few years, there’s no denying that the best gaming PC runs Windows. It’s about the overall suitability of the material for the games and the best selection of titles available.

With everything you need to customize the best gaming pc Australia– Overall, PCByte has built a reputation as a leader in technology retail. Whether you are looking for a gaming laptop in Australia or other tech products, like the popular Xiaomi vacuum robot, PCByte has it all.

The best new macOS Monterey features you’ll actually use https://integer-software.co.uk/the-best-new-macos-monterey-features-youll-actually-use/ https://integer-software.co.uk/the-best-new-macos-monterey-features-youll-actually-use/#respond Thu, 17 Jun 2021 20:06:06 +0000 https://integer-software.co.uk/the-best-new-macos-monterey-features-youll-actually-use/

With hundreds of features and changes made to macOS Monterey, it can be difficult to filter out signal noise. After installing and testing it over the past week, we’ve rounded up our favorite features that will get almost everyone excited.

There are some important features that we didn’t include in our list. Features like Universal Control are at the top of the list. Universal Control lets you place an iPad or Mac next to another Mac and effortlessly move your mouse and keyboard from device to device. Apple’s demo is amazing, but not everyone has another Mac or needs to use a mouse and keyboard on their iPad. So we didn’t include it in our list.

What we have included are seven more features that have made a big difference for us in everyday use.

Window management

Out of the Door with a capturing headline feature, there are two exceptionally cool additions for working with full screen apps as well as split view apps in macOS Monterey.

New toggle to automatically hide the menu bar

Before macOS Monterey, the menu bar always hid itself in a full screen app. This would conceal everything, including the time and other useful information that is there. With macOS Monterey, Apple lets you turn off auto-hide, leaving the menu bar ubiquitous – full screen app or not.

Swap window tiled in Split View

Swap window tiled in Split View

When working in split view, you can now click and hold the green circle in the menu bar to quickly switch between different apps. So if you are working in Notes and Safari at the same time but want to change Notes for Mail, you can click and hold the green circle and click Tiled Window Replaced, then select Mail from your list of open apps.

Both of these will be great quality of life improvements for power Mac users.

Safari

Visually, Safari has undergone a major overhaul. As one of the most used apps on Mac, any change goes a long way. It has a streamlined look and feel that we’ve loved so far.

Safari now adopts the background color of visited websites

Safari now adopts the background color of visited websites

The tabs are more rounded and the entire menu bar takes on the background color of the website you are visiting. The whole app comes in the form of a cohesive user interface rather than your page with a menu bar pasted above it. When you visit AppleInsider.com the menu bars blend into our dark blue color, while on YouTube the entire menu bar turns white.

Another improvement is Apple’s Smart Tracking Prevention. ITP will prevent sites from profiling you based on your IP address, in addition to any anti-tracking measures that debuted the previous year.

Safari tab groups

Safari tab groups

We also have a brand new sidebar. It has been redesigned and features groups of tabs. These, which sync across all of your devices, are an easy way to manage multiple tabs at once. You can easily group them into different types like work tabs, personal tabs, financial tabs or any other category you want.

SharePlay

SharePlay may fall into a subcategory of FaceTime, but it’s cool enough to be worth mentioning on its own.

Thanks to SharePlay, you can now watch videos, play games, listen to music with others during a FaceTime call. It’s a fantastic way to be connected while being physically separate.

Besides watching the latest episode of Mythic Quest with your best friends, you can also share your screen to easily solve your family’s computer problems.

AirPlay

The Mac is no longer an AirPlay 2 output device, but can now also be used as a receiver. It has a ton of implications and uses.

Using AirPlay 2, you can share a presentation you made on your own Mac, iPad, or iPhone and AirPlay in the Mac conference room plugged into a projector in an office environment. At home, you might want to mirror a video from your iPhone to the big screen of your 24-inch iMac for everyone to see.

AirPlay on your Mac

AirPlay on your Mac

Or maybe you are tired of those little speakers on your iPhone and instead want to hear the much richer sound from your MacBook Pro or iMac. AirPlay this audio from any of your favorite apps and don’t worry about finding them on the Mac.

Better yet, it now allows you to expand your display. You can place a second Mac right next to your existing Mac and use AirPlay to extend the display.

We can’t believe it took Apple this long to include this feature.

Quick note

Quick Note makes notes even easier to create and use.

Quick note creation

Quick note creation

Say you’re reading a story in News or reading a review on AppleInsider. You decide you want to write something down for future use. You can drag the slider in the lower right corner to bring up a new quick note. Just click and the note will appear in the middle of the screen.

Write down what you need, format your text, add a table or create a list. You can also press the link button to add an “app link”. Since the note knows what website you are in or what story you are in, the link will automatically populate with the URL of where you are.

Insert the app link in Quick Note

Insert the app link in Quick Note

This app link will also be useful in the future. If you visit that story or website again, your rating will automatically display in the lower right corner.

App links are contextual and will show up when they think you might need them. It’s been working fabulously so far, and we’ll be using this feature extensively once it launches.

If you ever need to retrieve your notes, a smart list in the Notes app will display all of the quick notes you’ve created so far.

Reset your Mac

There comes a time in the life of every Mac when it’s time to retire and replace it with a new model. The process of decommissioning your machine has always been more laborious than on iPhone or iPad.

macOS Monterey erases all content and settings

macOS Monterey erases all content and settings

You had to head to Disk Utility, format the drive, and reinstall macOS. Starting with macOS Monterey, going to System Preferences, then in the menu bar, there’s a new option that says Erase All Content and Settings.

This option does exactly what it says – it will erase everything on your Mac and revert it back to factory conditions. So if you pass the machine on to a family member or sell it on eBay, it makes the whole process a lot more manageable.

Low consumption mode

Low power mode on Mac

Low power mode on Mac

Apple is bringing its low power mode to both the iPad and the Mac this year. Unfortunately, low power mode is not (yet) in Control Center, but if you right click on battery and go to battery preferences, you can check the box to enable it.

This cuts down on battery-intensive tasks and hopefully lets you use your portable Mac a bit more.

Coming this fall

These are just a few features coming to macOS Monterey. Apple is expected to release the update for free this fall with iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, and watchOS 8.

Safari in macOS Monterey: what’s new and how it works https://integer-software.co.uk/safari-in-macos-monterey-whats-new-and-how-it-works/ https://integer-software.co.uk/safari-in-macos-monterey-whats-new-and-how-it-works/#respond Wed, 16 Jun 2021 22:17:00 +0000 https://integer-software.co.uk/safari-in-macos-monterey-whats-new-and-how-it-works/

Apple has unveiled a totally redesigned Safari with macOS Monterey (same for iOS 15 and iPadOS 15). The sweeping changes are causing some controversy as the first testers try out the beta. Let’s take a look at what’s changed, what’s new, and how Safari looks and works in macOS Monterey.

The first thing that catches your eye with Safari in macOS Monterey is a revised and minimalist tab design that merges the tab bar with the search / tools bar at the top. This is perhaps the aspect that has created the most controversy in the beta of Monterey so far. But for now, at least, it’s possible to revert to the Big Sur Safari tab design.

However, it’s unclear whether the new design will be optional when Monterey officially launches for Mac in autumn. Beyond that, there are new tab groups, new Quick Note functionality, UI and button changes, and more.

Safari in macOS Monterey: what’s new and how it works

Home Page

The new Safari’s start page looks pretty much the same with your favorites at the top, followed by Frequent Visits, the Privacy Report, and the Reading List. Like Safari in Big Sur, you can customize the background image for your start page with a few options included or even your own. You can drag to rearrange the different sections or toggle them on / off.

But what’s new in Safari for macOS Monterey / iOS 15 / iPadOS 15 is that the background images automatically sync across all devices through iCloud. You also have the new option “Use start page on all devices” and a checkbox to enable / disable iCloud tabs for the start page.

You can head to the lower right corner to customize your start page including the background image.

New unified Safari tab / search / toolbar

Okay, the elephant on the tab bar in the room. By default, it’s very minimal with just four buttons: sidebar / tab groups, previous / next and new tab + icon (no share button or even page reload in the toolbar).

Much like Safari in Big Sur, you can right-click at the top to customize the new unified tab / search / toolbar with more buttons (or on the menu bar, click View> Customize Bar tools).

Here’s a rundown of what’s available:

All of Big Sur’s Safari toolbar customization is not available in Monterey. Very notably, the share button to share, mark and add web pages to your reading list is no longer available to add directly to the toolbar.

Instead, he lives behind the icon in the URL / search bar. This is also where the page reload button has been moved:

Using tabs and tab groups in the new Safari

Here’s what opening a new tab looks like with at least one webpage already open:

And here is the new Safari in macOS Monterey with 7 tabs:

This is how Safari macOS Monterey works - 7 tabs

You can drag tabs or URL / search bar left to pin tab / open page. However, the mechanics seem a bit clunky for now compared to Big Sur.

With the new Sidebar / Tab Groups button, click the drop-down arrow to display saved tab groups or create new ones:

Create quick notes

Quick Notes are new for macOS Monterey and iPadOS 15. There are several ways to use the feature with the new Safari.

You can click the three dot icon in the URL / Search bar> Create Quick Note. Or, when you highlight text on a web page and right-click, you can choose New Quick Note or Add to Quick Note.

Poll: Do you like Safari’s new design in iOS 15 and macOS Monterey? https://integer-software.co.uk/poll-do-you-like-safaris-new-design-in-ios-15-and-macos-monterey/ https://integer-software.co.uk/poll-do-you-like-safaris-new-design-in-ios-15-and-macos-monterey/#respond Wed, 16 Jun 2021 00:39:00 +0000 https://integer-software.co.uk/poll-do-you-like-safaris-new-design-in-ios-15-and-macos-monterey/

As part of the new operating systems introduced at WWDC 2021, which include iOS 15 and macOS Monterey, Apple has unveiled a new version of Safari that has been redesigned on iPhone, iPad and Mac. However, the new interface seems to have upset some users since then. Now we want to know if you like the new Safari design or if you prefer the old one.

Safari is the default web browser included with every Apple device, and it received a new design with this year’s updates. Specifically, Apple has redesigned the tab bar to make it simpler and less visible, as it now has fewer buttons and almost disappears into the background of the website.

The problem is that many actions that were easily accessible through the address bar are now hidden in a More Options button. Doing things like adding a website to the playlist now requires that you first click another button and then find that option in the list.

The new tab experience can also seem confusing and less intuitive, as Apple now places more emphasis on icons on a tab than labels, regardless of whether you only have two or three tabs open. This resulted in the frustration of several beta users with the new Safari, as you’ve probably seen on Twitter or some other social network.

Interestingly, one developer even discovered that Apple is still hiding the old Safari interface in macOS Monterey, which can be enabled by modifying some internal system files. However, Apple is unlikely to keep this option available any longer.

It’s only been a week since Apple released the new developer betas for iOS 15 and macOS Monterey, but we want to know: do you like the new Safari design or do you prefer the old one? Let us know in the poll below and also in the comments section.

Apple’s upcoming iPadOS 15 will provide partial support for NTFS, bringing the mobile operating system into compliance with macOS.

Files on iPadOS cannot move, edit, or write files in the format typically used by Windows machines, although users can now read files from an attached NTFS drive as they would on Mac.

Although the usefulness is limited, iPad owners who update to the latest version of the operating system this fall will be able to view read-only files instead of a blank disk when NTFS formatted media is connected. to the tablet.

Youtube channel Fjordstrom discovered file management capability Last week.

In addition to NTFS support, Files gets a new progress indicator when moving or copying files. Tap the pie chart to open a larger progress bar that includes detailed information about transferred data, remaining data, and remaining time.

To finish, Fjordstrom Notes, users can select multiple files at once using a click-and-drag gesture on a connected trackpad.

Apple unveiled iPadOS 15 at its global developer conference last week, with the new operating system sporting an updated user interface with extended widget options, a Quick Note feature, refined multitasking and more. A beta version of iPadOS 15 is now available for developers ahead of a public release expected this fall.

How to record gameplay in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS https://integer-software.co.uk/how-to-record-gameplay-in-ios-ipados-and-macos/ https://integer-software.co.uk/how-to-record-gameplay-in-ios-ipados-and-macos/#respond Mon, 14 Jun 2021 11:24:00 +0000 https://integer-software.co.uk/how-to-record-gameplay-in-ios-ipados-and-macos/

With iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey, Apple plans to introduce an innovation aimed at gamers. If you’re using a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you already know of a similar feature – the console continuously records a video of your game that you can choose to save and share with your friends. You don’t even have to press a start button for recording.

It looks like Apple wants to introduce a similar feature with future versions of its operating systems. However, the recording time with Apple is limited to 15 seconds. So players have to decide fairly quickly whether the action just performed in the game is worth recording.

How to register the game

If you want to keep a recording, you need to briefly press the Share / Create button on a supported controller, such as Xbox Series X / S or Playstation 5.

Apple describes the feature itself as a “fantastic way to capture the latest boss fight, fantastic combo, or embarrassing action” in moving images.

The feature will require the new iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey operating systems – all of which are expected to be released in the fall. If you can’t wait, it’s possible to download a beta. The developer beta is available now and the public beta will be available soon. Read: How to join Apple’s beta program.

  • RESPOND: Activate an incident response program within your organization that can help contain the impact of a security event (in this case, ransomware).
  • IDENTIFY: Develop an understanding of the cybersecurity risks you need to manage across the breadth of your assets, systems, data, people, and capabilities.
  • DETECT: Define ongoing ways to monitor your organization and identify potential cybersecurity events or incidents.
  • RECOVERY: Develop a cyber resiliency program and backup strategy to prepare for how you can restore key systems or assets affected by a security incident.
