We already have a long term release of Linux Mint based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa. However, as we currently know, Ubuntu’s latest LTS release is 22.04 Jammy Jellyfish, so how can Linux Mint stay behind.

Recently, in an official blog, the developers of Linux Mint announced that – The new Ubuntu-based Linux Mint edition is ready for download and public testing. The project has been officially announced and the first mirror servers have already been loaded. This allows users to download Linux Mint 21 bootable ISO images with the different desktop environments.

Linux Mint 21 comes with Linux Kernel 5.15 (LTS series). The base is Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. The code name is Vanessa. The Linux Mint application software stack has been refreshed and ships with the new Cinnamon 5.4 release.

Still, version 21 is not in its stable state, but as it will, users can upgrade their existing Linux Mint 20.3 to version 21 using the Mint Upgrade Tool.
