It’s been a long time coming. After spending roughly two years in Early Access, Obsidian is ready to bring Grounded to the world after months of gathering player feedback. The studio announced during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase that Grounded 1.0 will be released in September 2022 on Xbox and PC.
People will now be able to play through the full campaign with new armor recipes, new weapon recipes, and the giant Mantis boss. Players will finally be able to find out why they were shrunk and the “mad scientist” behind it, as Obsidian puts it.
The game will include all 12 previously released Early Access updates, as well as a brand new area: the Upper Court.
Grounded is a survival game where players are shrunk to the size of bugs, much like what people might know from the movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. In first or third person, players can team up and survive in a garden full of threats like spiders, bees, and more. In addition to threatening insects, players must watch their food and water intake so they don’t starve or dehydrate.
Interestingly, Grounded also made headlines when it released in early access for having a dedicated arachnophobia mode, allowing players to turn various aspects of spiders on and off based on their preferences.
If you don’t want to wait for its 1.0 release, Grounded is playable now with an Xbox Game Pass early access subscription. It has evolved a lot over the months with multiple updates before launch.
