How to Reset Quick Access Pinned Folders to Their Defaults in Windows 10

Delete all the recently opened folders that accumulate in your quick access panel by wiping data in one motion.

Windows 10 has many features that are supposed to help with productivity, but some rarely do. The quick access function is one of them. It appears to the left of the Explorer window and contains folders that Windows thinks you might need; essentially, the ones you use frequently.

But like most widowed features, this one often gets it wrong and you end up with a long list of folders you’ve recently opened but have no use for. If you’ve ever tried to clear this list manually, you’ll know it can be a daunting task.


A faster way to clear Quick Access folders

Left to its own devices, Quick Access will fill up with recently opened folders. However, you can also customize the quick access menu. Folders that appear in our quick access list will also fill up your File Explorer’s taskbar jump list, and they can take up a lot of screen space.

When you manually clear a folder from your quick access list, Windows fills it with another. Here’s how to do essentially the same thing at the same time.

1. Clear Quick Access History via File Explorer

This method of resetting pinned folders in the quick access menu targets the Windows Jump List file, deleting it and all information associated with it. Here’s how to do it through File Explorer.

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Paste the following into the address bar:
  3. Hit Walk in.
  4. Locate the file with the following file name: f01b4d95cf55d32a.automaticDestinations-ms

    If you have many items in your quick access shortcuts list, chances are it’s a large file, which will make it easy to locate if you have many such files. .

  5. Delete this file from your system (CTRL+D).

2. Clear Quick Access Pinned Folders Using Command Prompt

If you’re unsure about manually deleting files from Windows, you can unpin all your Quick Access folders at once using the Command Prompt. Here’s how.

  1. Open the command prompt. (Go to the start menu, type “command prompt” and click on the application.)
  2. Type the following in the console:
    del /f /s /q /a "%AppData%MicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinationsf01b4d95cf55d32a.automaticDestinations-ms"
  3. Hit Walk in.

This performs the same operation as above, but it’s faster.

Quickly reduce your Jump List clutter

With this simple method, you can delete all the folders that populate your Quick Access Panel in Windows 10 with a single tap. You will no longer have to painstakingly clear each of your jump list.
