NVIDIA Container has stopped working on Windows computer

What is the NVIDIA container?

NVIDIA Container Where nvcontainer.exe is intended to store processes and tasks related to your GPU. It is ahead of NVIDIA Docker as it supports more runtime technologies like LXC, CRI-O, etc. It is important for your GPU and helps other programs and games to use NVIDIA graphics card.

However, for many users, NVIDIA Container does not work. Because of this, they may or may not be able to access certain graphically intensive games and apps. We will solve the problem with some simple solutions.

Windows update will fix a bug causing the problem as it will not only update your graphics driver but also update all related and unrelated services. There are other methods through which you can update your drivers. For example, using driver update software or from Device Manager. If NVIDIA Container has stopped working on your Windows 11/10 computer, check the following solutions mentioned below to fix the problem.

1]Reinstall the graphics driver

You should start troubleshooting by reinstalling the graphics driver. Before you begin, you should be aware that your computer may be blank for some time. So don’t panic.

Follow the given steps to uninstall the graphics driver.

  1. To hit Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. You should develop Screen adapter.
  3. Right-click on the NVIDIA graphics driver and click Uninstall device.
  4. You will be asked to confirm, so uninstall.

Your screen will go black, so wait a few minutes and your Windows will automatically detect and install a graphics driver.

After reinstalling the graphics driver, restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved. However, Windows will download a generic driver and that’s not really what we want. So, go to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest NVIDIA driver. Then you can install it on your computer and hopefully the problem will be solved.

2]Restart the NVIDIA container service

Sometimes the problem can be a glitch and hence can be solved easily by restarting a service. So we need to restart NVIDIA Container Service and see if it works. Follow the given steps to do the same.

  1. Open Services by looking for it in the start menu.
  2. Right click on the Nvidia Display Container Local System and click Properties.
  3. If it’s Stop, Start it. If it is running, stop it, then start it.

Wait for the process to complete and see if it works.

3]Adjust power management

We’ll change the power management and see if that helps. We will not only change the setting through the control panel, but also from the NVIDIA control panel.

Follow the given steps to modify the control panel.

  • Open Control Panel.
  • Change Show By to Large Icons.

  • To select Change advanced power settings.
  • To expand PCI Express > Link State Power Management.
  • Disable the settings.
  • Click on Apply > OK.

Now we will open the NVIDIA Control Panel and disable it from there.

  • Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Expand 3D Settings and click Manage 3D settings.
  • Go to the Global Settings tongue.
  • Click on Power management mode and select Prioritize maximum performance.
  • Select Apply.

Finally, restart your computer and hope the problem will be fixed.

4]Troubleshoot in Clean Boot

The problem can also appear because of a third-party application. These applications can interfere with your GPU causing the error in question. Since most of us have lots of third-party apps, it’s hard to single out just one app. And no, we’re not asking you to delete them all. What you need to do is troubleshoot issues in Clean Boot and find the culprit. Then you can delete it and fix the problem.
