Transforming the learning experience in Rajasthan

“Project Utkarsh” and “e-Gyankendra” are the two projects which have won praise from the government of Rajasthan. While the first project aims to bring qualitative change in mass school education through technology and a quiz-based learning system, the second, developed by Dr Jitendra Kumar Soni, District Collector and Magistrate, Jhalawar, Government of Rajasthan, aims to facilitate and empower communities through e-learning and e-governance, examines Kartik Sharma of Elets News Network (ENN).

Utkarsh Project
Many public schools have access to technological infrastructure through various programs, but its use by teachers and students is generally well below average. In addition, there is no effective way for the government to track the use of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure or to measure the impact on student learning outcomes.

Result indicators
Benefits:

• Build a strong learning culture by making students more curious, confident and participatory
• Made curriculum-based learning more engaging and fun
• Collaboration with implementing agencies (eg government and Ministry of Education) for consistent project implementation. As part of the Utkarsh project, we are establishing a district and school level implementation model for further replication.

Key Considerations:
127 ICT schools selected in Jhalawar district
• Over 80 schools have completed smart teacher training
• 500+ systems used for regular practice and learning
• Over 1,000 teachers have been trained for long-term capacity building
• 82.5% participation of schools in rural areas
• Content developed in the local language
• Revolutionary step for digital India through digital empowerment

Activation indicators
Inclusiveness and stakeholder participation:
A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Statement of Work (SoW) signed between key stakeholders, including roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder, program methodology and delivery approach were crucial in this regard trash video"}” data-sheets-userformat=”{"2":513,"3":{"1":0},"12":0}”>trash video.

Open Media Server-based E-Gyankendra aims to fill this gap by providing a versatile technology solution and sowing the seeds of a grassroots community around it.

Technological adaptations / innovative deployment: The Quiz Academy platform having the exclusivity and interactivity of everyday language content, a smooth user interface, a remote monitoring dashboard for real-time status, an offline solution for non-internet availability in schools were important factors.

e-Gyankendra Teachers and students around the world can now access educational resources for free in their own language. But there is a big problem with accessing the Internet. About two thirds of the world’s population do not have reliable internet access and in India the situation is not good either. This can be resolved through (semi) offline educational media servers that are present at the site of the educational deployment. Taken together, the immense growth in high-quality open educational resources (OER), recent advancements in low-power, low-cost computing, and the falling cost of storage devices make bridging the gap an economically feasible solution. and scalable.
